Strategies of Success

SOS: A lifeline for beginning teachers

It's not easy being a new teacher. First year teachers are expected to perform as well on their first day as veteran teachers, yet traditionally, beginners receive little or no direct support with the transition from student to career educator. Since teachers typically work alone in the classroom, it can be difficult to get this support when it's most needed. Studies show that many new teachers quit the profession by their fifth year.

Strategies of Success (SOS) is an induction and internship program designed to give beginning teachers the crucial support they need. SOS uses mentorship, site visits, group interaction, and online class meetings; this combination of guidance from experienced mentors and peer interaction helps new teachers develop the strategies that lead to long-term success in the classroom.
